Welcome to the China Peak Volunteer Ski Patrol!
Who We Are
The China Peak Volunteer Ski Patrol (CPVSP) is part of the National Ski Patrol (NSP), serving China Peak Mountain Resort in Lakeshore, California. The NSP, founded in 1938 during the early days of recreational skiing in the U.S., has always lived by its creed: Service and Safety. Today, over 31,000 members serve more than 650 patrols nationwide.
Founded in 1958, the China Peak Ski Patrol has built a proud tradition of promoting safety, protecting the mountain environment, and supporting the outdoor recreation community.
Our patrol family is made up of people from all walks of life — from teens as young as 15 to seasoned veterans of the ski industry — all united by a passion for service, safety, and the outdoors.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, CPVSP relies on membership dues, donations, and corporate sponsorships to operate. Our volunteers cover the cost of their own equipment and training. The team includes ski and bike patrollers, base patrol, mountain and bike hosts, alumni, and associates — each playing a vital role in keeping our mountain community safe.
What We Do
Before the first chairlift turns and long after the last guest heads home, China Peak Volunteer Ski Patrol is on duty — assessing conditions, setting up safety systems, and making sure every visitor enjoys a safe day on the mountain. We’re often the first to arrive and the last to leave, driven not by recognition but by our love of service, the sport, and the mountain environment.
All patrollers undergo rigorous training to earn certification as Outdoor Emergency Care Technicians. Mountain Hosts complete Outdoor First Care certification. Every year, both patrollers and hosts attend refresher training to keep their skills sharp, and all maintain CPR certifications via American Red Cross.
Our top priority is to create a safe, enjoyable mountain experience. Our second is to deliver professional first-responder care to anyone who needs assistance.
